This picture shows you the lower southern sky in spring by using of wide-angled photo lens.
We can trace three minor constellations in the field, named Pyxis, Vela, and Antlia, from right to left. Pyxis and Vela formed a vast constellation of "Argo" with Puppis in next to west and Carina (invisible around Japan). Although it's fairly poor condition to see at Japan because of low meridian transit height, Vela is bathed in the Milky Way continued from winter skies and contains many diffused nebulae and star clusters. An inconspicuous constellation of Antlia (pump) was established by Lacaille in 1763. The constellation is formed by linking several faint stars without neither relation nor association of the shape of pump. |
