An inconspicuous summer constellation of Vulpecula is positioned just south of the Northern Cross, Cygnus.
The constellation has been established by Hevelius in 17th century, and is drawing a fox holding a bag of bird.
The constellation's name of "Little Fox" was called "Little fox and Goose" in the beginning.
It's considerably difficult to form the constellation because it has the brightest stars of only 4th magnitude.
But the constellation contains a famous planetary nebula of "Dumb-bell Nebula (M27)" around the central region,
the nebula has made the constellation's name comparatively known. |
Dumb-bell Nebula(M27) | .....Attractive planetary nebula at center of Vulpecula, 970 ly. away |
NGC6813 | .....Small emission nebula at 2.2deg. ESE of Albireo |
NGC6820 | .....Round diffused nebula with a diameter of 40 arc min in western region |
NGC6940 | .....Medium-sized open cluster at east region, 9380 ly. away |
Sh2-83 | .....Small emission nebula at 0.7deg. NW of open cluster Cr399 (Coat Hunger) |
Sh2-88 | .....Small and dimmed emission nebula in central, 6520ly. away |
Sh2-90 | .....5'-sized red emission nebula at 4deg. ESE of Albireo in Cygnus |
Sh2-93 | .....2'-sized small red emission nebula at 5deg. east of Albireo in Cygnus |
Abell 74 | .....Round & reddish planetary nebula positioned at eastern edge |
