This is a diffuse nebula located about 7 degrees northeast of Sirius, resembling a bird with outstretched wings,
which is why it is called the "Seagull Nebula" in English (also known as the "Eagle Nebula" in Japanese).
Like many diffuse nebulae, it is unfortunately not visible to the naked eye. Spanning over 2 degrees in length from north to south, its shape can be clearly captured even with a standard lens.
The Seagull Nebula is a massive cloud of hydrogen gas floating approximately 3,800 light-years away.
About 2 degrees east of the Seagull Nebula lies LBN1036, an extremely faint diffuse nebula.
Strictly speaking, IC2177 refers to the section corresponding to the head of the seagull and is also identified with IDs such as vdB93.
The faint region that makes up the wings of the seagull is cataloged as Sh2-296 in the Sharpless catalog.

This is a close-up image capturing the main body of the Seagull Nebula.
The southern wing of the seagull overlaps with a dark nebula, and the bright emission nebula visible at the southern tip is designated as Sh2-297.
To the west of the wing, the circular Hα nebulae Sh2-293 and Sh2-295 are located.
