IC2172 (NGC2282) is a small reflection nebula located in the central part of the constellation Monoceros, approximately 1.1 degrees south of the 4th magnitude 18 Mon. The nebula has a size of about 4 arc minutes. It may not be very conspicuous, but the nebula reflects the light of the stars in the open cluster that overlaps with it. The distance from the solar system is estimated to be around 5500 light-years.
