NGC5204 is a spiral galaxy positioned at about 3.5 degrees north of Mizar which forms the Big Dipper in Ursa Major. The galaxy's spiral structures are indistinct and seem only elliptic galaxy. An elongated figure in north south direction has a long axis of 5 arc minutes and a brightness of 11.7th magnitude.
It is known that the galaxy has an anomalous intensive X-ray source of NGC5204 X-1 in offset from its nucleus; many studies have been performed. The galaxy has been estimated as 14.5 million light years away, one of members of a galaxy group around the Pinwheel galaxy M101.
