An elliptical galaxy NGC 4636, situated 6 degrees north of γVir (Porrima), boasts a visual diameter of 6 arc minutes, placing it among the relatively larger specimens in this region.
At its core lies an active galactic nucleus, leading NGC4636 to be classified as a Seyfert galaxy.
Positioned in the southeastern corner of the Virgo Cluster, its distance from the Milky Way is estimated to be 53 million light-years.
Furthermore, coincidentally overlapping with NGC4636 in the same direction is the distant galaxy cluster Abell 1599,
as evidenced by the distribution of tiny galaxies resembling grains of rice in this image.
This galaxy cluster is located at a distance of 1.35 billion light-years.
