This image captures a dense galaxy group located 5.3 degrees SSE of υ1 Hydrae, in the central region of the constellation.
The largest one, NGC 3091, is an elliptical galaxy with a major axis of about 3 arcminutes and a brightness of 12th magnitude.
Just 5 arcminutes to the east, the small spiral galaxy NGC 3096 can be seen.
These galaxies are registered as Hickson Compact Group 42 and are situated between 170 and 220 million light-years away.
