This image shows you the change of size and phase of Venus in 2007. The Venus approaches to the Earth as waning, and had the inferior conjunction on Aug 16, passed just south of the sun. In that time the Venus had a brightness of about -4th magnitude and a diameter of about an arc minutes, but we need a telescope to see the Venus because it's so close to the sun.
