On this day, the comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas was located near the northernmost part of the Serpens (Cauda) in the western evening sky. It could be found approximately 20 arc minutes west of θ Serpentis, which is captured on the left edge of this photograph. The comet has become much smaller and dimmer since the last observation, with a coma brightness of 9th magnitude. The bell-shaped dust tail is still well developed, showing a typical cometary appearance.
