This captures reflection and dark nebulae in the northeastern part of the constellation Cassiopeia, approximately 8 degrees northeast of ε Cas.
The upper (north) portion in the image is vdB 7, while the lower (south) part is vdB 9; both reflection nebulae have sizes of about 3 arc minutes each.
Only a small portion of the extensive molecular cloud covering the entire field reflects the light from nearby 6th magnitude stars.
Within the same molecular cloud, the portion cast in shadow on the eastern side is identified with dark nebula with IDs such as LDN 1355 and LDN 1358.
The distance to this molecular cloud is approximately 1400 light years.
The two dark nebulae LDN 1355 and LDN 1358, along with the surrounding molecular clouds, appear to resemble a pair of hands stretched wide toward the lower left (southeast), as if trying to catch something.
This distinctive appearance has led to these celestial objects collectively being referred to as the "Helping-hand Nebula".
This image has been cropped with an equivalent focal length of 600mm.
