The faint and irregular galaxy UGCA86 is situated approximately 1.6 degrees southeast of the large galaxy IC342, found on the western outskirts of Camelopardalis. It is considered a companion galaxy to IC342 and is one of the members of the Maffei Galaxy Group, located adjacent to the Local Group. UGCA86 has a brightness of 15th magnitude, a size of about 5 arc minutes, and an estimated distance of around 10 million light-years. In photographs, it may appear as if two bright regions are aligned north to south, but it is not easily discernible through visual observation.
