A vast and dimmed reddish gaseous region of Sh2-54 is spread just north of M16, the nebula has an apparent span of about 2 degrees.
Although you can detect M16 with your own eyes as a white cloudy object, Sh2-54 is not a naked eye celestial object.
The nebula is one of lamps of gigantic hydrogen gas distributed along the galactic equator;
actually M16 and Sh2-54 form one-body gaseous matter.
You can detect only M16 with your eyes because it's fairly brighter than other surrounding nebulae.
