A dimmed reddish diffused nebula distributed around one degree north of nu Ori, marks a cudgel of Orion, is called Sh2-261. The nebula has approximate sizes of 50 arc minutes in east-west direction and 30 arc minutes in north south, and it has complicated patterns in the oval cloud region. This nebula has an impression like a crushed Rosette nebula in north south direction. It can easily be captured only with small photo lenses because the nebula has enough apparent size. In spite of its fairly noticeable appearance, the nebula has no number of NGC nor IC catalogues. Many major star charts have forgotten to include the shape of the nebula, so it's a deep sky object to which many amateur astrophotographers do not give an attention.
