A compact semi-circular diffused nebula can be seen about 6 degrees southwest of γCygni (Sadr) shining at the intersection of a huge cross in Cygnus. Because of its shape, the nebula is also called the Crescent Nebula.
Around here, you can see the faint diffused nebula IC1318 surrounding γCygni. NGC6888 forms part of this diffuse nebulosity, but its origin is different. A 7.5-magnitude Wolf-Rayet star WR136, a kind of blue giant located at the center of the nebula, is nearing the end of its life. The surface hydrogen gas is spreading as a stellar wind and forming the nebula.
