This spiral galaxy is located in the northwestern part of Canes Venatici, near the border with Ursa Major. It can be found 4.4 degrees northwest of β Canum Venaticorum. It is an edge-on galaxy, nearly seen sideways, with a length exceeding 6 arcminutes. A bright central nucleus is visible, but the arms are of nearly equal brightness, giving the galaxy an overall spindle shape. It is approximately 55 million light-years away and belongs to the Ursa Major Southern Galaxy Group.
