This is a small elliptical galaxy located in the southeastern part of Gemini, about 4.6° ENE of λ Gem. Its apparent diameter is just under 2 arcminutes and it is very faint, but a subtle, tongue-like structure extends toward the northwest. Because of this unusual shape, it is listed as No. 165 in the Arp Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies. The distance to NGC 2418 is estimated to be about 240 million light-years.
