M17 is a diffused nebula in Sagittarius positioned about 2.5 degrees south of M16(Eagle Nebula) in previous page. M17 has several nicknames of "Swan Nebula" or the "Omega Nebula", this name came because the shape of the deep part of nebula resemble a Greek letter of omega. And occasionally, the nebula is known as the "Horseshoe Nebula". We can observe the nebula with a size of about 40arc minutes and 3300 light years away.
