The bright star in the upper right of the field is μ Serpentis, located in the constellation Serpens Caput. The boundary line between Serpens and Libra runs horizontally just above the center of the image. This photograph covers an area of 2.4×2.9°, and relatively dense dark nebulae and molecular clouds are drifting through this region. In the shadowed area of a molecular cloud about 1.2° northeast of μ Serpentis lies the dark nebula cataloged as LDN 183. About 1.7° south of this is another clump of molecular cloud-its brighter part is designated LBN 10, and the darker upper part is cataloged as the dark nebula LDN 134.
