LBN 1022 is a faint diffuse nebula located about 1.5° due west of the open cluster M50 in the southern part of Monoceros. It spans about 20 arcminutes, and in the foreground, dark nebulae with complex structures appear to obscure the red emission nebula behind them. In Lynds' Bright Nebula Catalog (LBN), the position is listed about 18 arcminutes west of its true location, but this nebula is identified as LBN 1022. Its distance from the Solar System is about 3000 light-years.
