Observed for the first time in this apparition, comet 24P/Schaumasse was located in the southwestern corner of Coma Berenices on this day, with a bluish, roughly 10th-magnitude coma visible. This region corresponds to the northern part of the Virgo Cluster; just north of the comet lies NGC4379, and to its northeast is NGC4396.
The comet's coma, as measured from this image, is about 10 arcminutes across. It is forecast to reach a maximum brightness of magnitude 8-9 in Jan 2026.
