The comet Machholz in that day has positioned at about 4 degrees southwest of the Pleiades, having a coma with 3rd magnitude and an active ion tail. You can see in a reversed image that the ion tail has been widened around the tip. It's considered that the comet had a fairly large-scaled gush activity of plasma matters several hours ago.
