In northeast region of the Cetus, NGC864 can be found out around the midway between xi2 Cet in head of the Whale and alpha Psc.
The galaxy is a typical face-on spiral with a long axis of a bit smaller than 5 arc minutes, elongated in north-south direction.
With some dimmed galaxies, NGC864 configures a small-scaled galaxy group.
