NGC 7253 is a pair of interacting galaxies located about 5 degrees west of η Pegasi in the northwestern part of the constellation. The northern and southern galaxies are designated NGC7253A and NGC7253B, respectively, and they are also listed as Arp 278 in the Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies. Both galaxies are faint, with lengths under 2 arcminutes and brightness below 14th magnitude, but they are recognized as a typical example of gravitationally interacting galaxies. The pair is estimated to be approximately 200 million light-years away from our Milky Way Galaxy.
