NGC6309 is a compact planetary nebula about 3 degrees NNE from eta Oph. The nebula has a size of about 16 arc seconds and 10th magnitude in visual brightness, and a shape of elongated in north south direction. You can appreciate the figure like this photograph with high-powered telescopes.
