This is a large but dimmed elliptical galaxy in southern part of Cassiopeia. The galaxy is positioned about 7.5 degrees north of The Andromeda Galaxy (M31).
NGC147 is a member of the Local Group to which our Galaxy belongs, floating about 2.4 million light years away. And the galaxy has almost same direction and distance with M31, strong gravitational interaction with it. We can consider that NGC147 is one of companion galaxies of M31.
