In lower southern sky in winter night, an extraordinary vast but dimmed gGum Nebulah is spreading out with a size of 40×90 degrees. The nebula is positioned in the Milky Way of Puppis to Vela. The nebula with name of an astronomer, who investigated about the nebula, is considered a supernova remnant exploded about from 10 to 30 thousand years ago. In Japan, I can capture images of only northern part of Gum Nebula, but its low altitude of meridian transit make difficult to take pictures of the nebula clearly.
This image shows you a limited area of Gum Nebula around the border of Puppis and Vela, equivalent a part of northeast region. A circular nebulosity in center has an ID of Gum17. The Gum Nebula has been grouped into some regions and assigned ID numbers because it's too large to regard as single celestial object. Its whole figure has ring structure, looks like a swollen Veil Nebula in Cygnus.

This image shows you around the central region of the Gum Nebula just west of λ Vel including remarkably bright H-alpha nebulae of Gum 15 and Gum 17. Gum 15 is the most striking round nebula with a diameter of about 20 arc minutes, and a 90 arc minutes-span nebula of Gum 17 is lying just southeast of Gum 15. Additionally, a dimmed round Gum 14 and a filamentary Gum 12 are distributed at northwest and southwest of Gum 15, respectively.
