This is a small, circular emission nebula with an apparent diameter of about 12 arc minutes, located near the boundary with Cepheus at the tip of Cygnus's tail.
Its shape has earned it the nickname "Cocoon Nebula."
A filamentary dark nebula extends westward from the main body, giving the impression that the Cocoon Nebula has drifted whimsically through the Milky Way, creating a very humorous sight.
Inside the circular nebula, one can also see a network of intricate dark lanes. The distance from the Solar System is approximately 5500 light-years.
At the right edge of the field, a group of rather complex dark nebulae is visible, identified as LDN 1035, 1042, 1045, and others.
