Abell 5 is an inconspicuous planetary nebula located in the northern part of Perseus. It can be found about 5.2 degrees west of α Persei (Mirfak). With an apparent diameter of 2 arcminutes, it emits red Hα light and shows a slightly distorted, ring-like structure. Its distance from the Solar System is estimated at 5400 light-years, giving it a true diameter of about 3.3 light-years, and it is considered to be a rather old planetary nebula.
