In midnight of Jan 24, 2002, a rare sky event of Saturnian occultation was observed in western Japan. Moreover my viewpoint was positioned on the limit line of occultation, the Saturn was grazed the northern edge of Moon of 11th age. Although almost every regions of Japan was blessed with fine weather without any clouds, the elevation of Moon was lower than 10 degrees, the atmospheric seeing was very poor.
This set of images shows you the progress of occultation for about 7 minutes. The Saturn itself was not hidden behind the Moon, the outer part of Saturnian ring was grazed by lunar mountains one after another.
