Comet Hale-Bopp on Aug 15 1996

Optical: TAKAHASHI 13cm(5.1") Newtonian with conversion lens (f=630mm, F4.8)
Auto-guided with TAKAHASHI EM-200 Equatorial
Camera: MINOLTA SRT-101
Film: Fujicolor Super G Ace 400
Location: Satomi vil., Ibaraki pref.



This comet Hale-Bopp image has been captured in a good transparency night just a typhoon passed. In that day the comet positioned in southeast edge of the constellation of Ophiuchus. The comet had a heliocentric distance of 3.4 a. u. (about 500 million km), over doubled away of the orbit of Mars.
This image shows that the comet has a brightness of 5.5th magnitude and a dense coma in northern part. We can detect a dimmed tail-like structure in eastern direction with a length of about 30 arc minutes.
