On this day in 2023, Comet 2023P1 Nishimura is located in the eastern lower sky in the early morning, approximately 4.7 degrees NNE of the Beehive Cluster (M44) in Cancer. Despite the challenging conditions with a bright moon after full moon, a well-concentrated coma with 7th magnitude and an ion tail extending towards WNW were observed. Although it appears blurry, the tail seems to extend beyond the field of view by more than 2 degrees. The comet is expected to rapidly increase in brightness from here on, but as it approaches the Sun, observation conditions will deteriorate.
This image has been cropped with an equivalent focal length of 700mm.
