The comet Machholz in that day has positioned about 8degrees from the Polaris, having a coma with 6th magnitude. You can see a minor open cluster of NGC188 in second field picture.
The comet has an ion tail with a length of about 3 or 4 degrees and an indistinct fan-like dust tail.
