NGC 7424 is a relatively large spiral galaxy visible in the eastern part of the constellation Grus. It can be found 5.7 degrees ENE of δ1 Gruis. Although its apparent diameter is 10 arc minutes, its low altitude at culmination in Japan makes it difficult to capture detailed structures. It is classified as a face-on barred spiral galaxy, and with an actual diameter of about 100,000 light-years, its shape and size are quite similar to our Milky Way Galaxy, earning it the nickname "Grand Design Galaxy". NGC 7424 is located approximately 37 million light-years away, and while it may form a small galaxy group with surrounding galaxies, it is considered a loosely bound or possibly isolated galaxy.
