This image has been created by composing 7 shots of total lunar eclipse on Jan 31, 2018, aligned each position of taken times on the basis of the Umbra of the Earth. The Moon moved from right to left taking a little over three hours. The image indicates the movement of Moon relative to the Umbra shown as a broken circle. Maybe you can understand that the shadow edge of eclipsed Moon is indicating an outline of the Umbra from the image.
